“Singapore’s literary community is pushing back against an official effort to train LLMs using their published works, part of a growing global resistance.

Singaporean writers are resisting their government’s request to use their works to train a multilingual LLM.
Writers say there is little clarity on compensation and how the material will be used.
It is rare for a country to seek the consent of writers, and Singapore may have to settle for lower-quality data to train its LLM, if there is major resistance.
